The Storyline
No. 10 Humber women's basketball continues its title defence Thursday afternoon in the round of eight at St. Lawrence College. Humber's quarter-final matchup will be against the Durham Lords (12-5, 3rd East), with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
The Matchup
Humber has won six straight quarter-final games, with an 9-4 record all-time. This will be the first meeting between these two programs in the quarter-final round, with their last meeting occurring in a crossover meeting in 2012. At home, the Hawks cruised to 64-48 win, behind a game-high 12 points from Jordana Mazzei.
Scouting Durham
- The Lords have won nine of their last ten games, including a close come-from-behind win over the Lambton Lions (12-8, 5th West) in the crossover round, 72-70. Marie Stasiuk finished with a double-double, recording a team-high 18 points and 14 rebounds.
- Durham is led by two-sport athlete Emily Glendinning, a 2018 OCAA softball provincial champion.
- Durham's last provincial title came in 1997 – its only Division I title.
Last Time Out
In a crossover game against Georgian, Humber cruised to an easy postseason victory, 78-28. Shorthanded, the Hawks received a total team effort in the effort, as all eight dressed players scored three points or more. Leticia Lopez finished with a game-high 15 points, followed by career-highs of 12 points from Hamida Tejan-Cole and Jaime Gordon.
Playoff Performance
- The Hawks are 18-5 all-time in the OCAA postseason during the Ajay Sharma era – including 13 consecutive playoff victories.
- This is the first time the Hawks will play in a Final Eight tournament that is hosted by St. Lawrence College.
