NANAIMO, BRITISH COLUMBIA: The Humber Hawks will be represented by a threesome of teams in various disciplines at the upcoming 2016 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Badminton Championships, which is being hosted by Vancouver Island University next week in Nanaimo, BC.

Four of the five participating on behalf of Humber captured CCAA medals last year. Jesse Assing (mixed doubles), took silver in men's singles and Ryan Chow (men's doubles) was a bronze medalist in the same discipline he is playing in this year.

Phuthita "Boom" Nilyok, who joins Assing on the mixed doubles team, is a freshman and this is her first trip to the national event.

The competition kicks off with the first three rounds of competition on Thursday, March 3. The final two rounds of the round robin, and the semi-finals will be completed on Friday, March 4. The gold and bronze medal matches will take place on Saturday, with the medal presentations following the last medal game.

In addition, Humber's Olivia Lei will be honoured with her second straight CCAA All Canadian award. She has also been nominated for the CCAA Women's Badminton Player of the Year, an award she captured as a freshman last season.
