Best of the Decade: Top Program

ETOBICOKE – Over the last 30 years, Humber Varsity has been blessed with three national superpowers. In the 90s, men's basketball became Humber's first superpower, capturing four CCAA titles from 1991 to 1995.

In the 2000s, men's golf took over as the second superpower, winning ten CCAA team titles from 2001 to 2012.

Humber's program of the decade became the third superpower and is now widely recognized as the premier collegiate program in the country.

TOP PROGRAM OF THE DECADE

MEN'S SOCCER
Men's soccer had unprecedented success in the 2010s, putting together the most dominant run in Humber team sports history. The Hawks began 2010 with two national titles and concluded the decade with seven – the most in CCAA men's soccer history.

In his final season at the helm in 2012, the legendary Germain Sanchez led the Hawks to their third national title – the first since 2001. Michael Aquino took over the role of head coach in 2013, and with the help of Jason Mesa, Alessandro Sabatini, and Ricardo Fonseca, the Hawks captured four more national titles over the next six years.

Two-time CCAA championship MVP Eugenio Garro and Gerardo Magno won four titles for the Hawks, while Jaineil Hoilett, Jordan Piccinin, Karman Singh, Kingsley Boasiako, Luca Baldassarre, Marc Medeiros, and Marcos Nunes all finished with three rings.

Humber's dominance included 17 straight CCAA victories, a 46-match unbeaten streak that included 29 clean sheets, and an overall decade record of 121-13-10 (.875).

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
In 2011, Ajay Sharma was named the head coach of the Humber women's basketball program, forever changing the landscape of OCAA basketball. Five years later, the Hawks made history, becoming the first OCAA women's team sport (basketball, volleyball, soccer) to win a national title. Two years later, led by the legendary duo of Ceejay Nofuente and Aleena Domingo, the Hawks ran it back to capture the CCAA title for the second time.

Along the way, Humber established numerous OCAA women's basketball records, including 81 straight wins, most points in a game (125), most points in a season (1,899), three-pointers in a season (184), and consecutive provincial titles (4 - 2015-18). The Hawks finished the decade with a 181-31 (.854) overall record.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
No program has dominated the OCAA like Humber's women's volleyball. During the decade, the Hawks ran off a string of nine straight provincial titles and received six CCAA All-Canadian selections.

What's more impressive, under the guidance of head coach Chris Wilkins, the Hawks established an OCAA streak that will never be touched. Beginning in 2011, Humber ran off 155 consecutive OCAA victories, including 26 OCAA postseason matches. Over the decade, the Hawks finished with a 203-26 (.886) record.
