Top Humber Varsity Moments of the Decade - 2012

ETOBICOKE – Humber varsity added three more CCAA banners in 2012, including the first-ever for a talented Humber squad.

26 OCAA medals were also won, 17 of which were of the gold variety.

A couple of individual performances stood out on the year, as one was even featured in April 2012 edition of Sports Illustrated.

6. Phil Boone leaves his mark
As Humber men's rugby captured its third straight provincial title, Phil Boone left his mark on the league, setting numerous records that still stand today. In his final season with the Hawks, Boone became the all-time leading scorer in OCAA history, finishing with 283 points. He concluded the regular season with a record 166 points, including a record 46 points in Humber's 101-0 victory over Sheridan. His six tries in the win were also an OCAA record.

When the dust settled, Boone was named the championship man of the match and 2012 OCAA rugby player of the year.

5. Softball claims first provincial title
Winning a provincial championship is never easy, especially when you're facing off against a program that had won seven titles in ten years. During the regular season, the Hawks finished with two losses, both to the Durham Lords. Backed by future Humber Hall of Famers Kelsey Bardy and Jessica O'Quinn, Humber beat Durham twice in the postseason to capture its first OCAA championship.

4. Terrell Bramwell's record-breaking year
Terrell Bramwell was a generational talent, showcased by his superhuman vertical skills and the cannon attached to his right arm. In Humber's come-from-behind victory over Mohawk in the 2012 OCAA semifinal, Bramwell produced 52 points on 48 kills, demolishing his regular-season record of 40 points.

3. 10 in 12 for Men's Golf
The Humber golf machine produced its tenth national title since 2001, concluding an unprecedented run that the sport may never see again. Engineered by head coach Ray Chateau, Humber had three players (Nicholas Fortin, Alex Dumais, and Ben Bell) finish tied for third place to capture the program's fourth consecutive CCAA Championship.

2. Men's Soccer returns to the top
After a 12-year hiatus, Humber men's soccer captured the 2012 national championship, defeating the VIU Mariners in penalty kicks. After Humber keeper Eugenio Garro – later named the championship MVP – stopped VIU's seventh shooter, Yousif Yousif found the back of the net for the game-winner. For Garro and teammate Gerardo Magno, it was their first of four national titles.

1. Best in the nation: men's volleyball
The 2012 season was a magical one for the Humber men's volleyball program.  After finishing the regular season with a 17-1 record, the Hawks went on to capture their third consecutive provincial title.

In his 17th season at the helm, head coach Wayne Wilkins and the Hawks went on to win the program's first CCAA National Championship. Terrel Bramwell was named the tournament MVP after breaking the all-time kills record for a three-round playoff (98) and for a final tournament game (43) when Humber beat Douglas College, 3-1.
