TECUMSEH, Ont – The Humber men's baseball team (8-4, 2nd OCAA) rebounded in a big way Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of powerhouse St. Clair (10-4, 1st OCAA).
HUMBER 6, ST. CLAIR 3 – 8 INNINGS
A battle of the aces was the story in game one as the Saints sent the three-time pitcher of the year Kyle Breitner to the mound in game one, while the Hawks countered with Steven Hough. A low scoring game would ensure an extra frame would be needed to decide a winner with the game tied at two after seven innings.
In the top half of the eighth inning, the Humber offence plated four runners, handing Breitner his second career loss.
Hough earned his third win in as many starts, finishing the complete-game effort with seven hits, six strikeouts, and two earned runs.
Dennis Dei Baning found his groove at the plate, picking up two hits while driving in three.
HUMBER 4, ST. CLAIR 3
St. Clair opened the scoring in the first inning; however, Humber was able to respond in the top of the fourth with four runs off Saints start Micah Harris.
Rory Pollard got the nod in game two for his second start of the season, and the big right-hander did not disappoint. Pollard went five innings, allowing three runs – two earned – while striking out three. Matt Stoddart earned the two-inning save in relief, only allowing two hits.
Andrew Thomson went 3-3 at the plate, including two doubles, moving him past Daniel Campos for the most career hits in program history.
What's next?
The Hawks will travel to Christie Pits in Toronto on Tuesday to play George Brown College. First pitches are slated for 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.
