BASEBALL ADDS INTERNATIONAL PLAYER TO INCOMING RECRUITING CLASS

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- On a day of celebration in the United States, men's baseball assistant coach Matthew Ferreira has announced the addition of Max Elofson for the upcoming 2017 season.  Elofson is an international student-athlete from Minneapolis, where he has been playing baseball since he was three years old.

"To stretch our recruiting ties into Minnesota speaks to the strength of our program," said Coach Ferreira.  "To be able to sign a player like Max who could have played at the NCAA or NAIA level is a tremendous compliment."

Elofson, an outfielder who can also pitch and play first base, is coming off an incredible senior season at Washburn High School.  The six-foot-one left-handed hitter finished the year with a .457/.500/.771 slash line in 19 games while collecting 22 RBI's.  Elofson also slugged four home runs, something no Washburn Miller has done in 17 seasons.  For his efforts, Elofson was selected the 2016 Washburn Baseball Player of the Year.

"He's coming off a very good high school season and will bring power to our lineup from the left side of the plate," added Coach Ferreira.  "He's also versatile enough to play both corner outfield positions as well as first base.  We expect him to come in and make an immediate impact."

Elofson has enrolled in the Bachelor of Digital Communications program at Humber College, a four-year honours degree.

"Humber offers an array of classes that allow you to showcase your creative side," said Elofson.  "I chose Digital Communications because I have an interest in design and I enjoy broadcasting my innovations through video and social media."

Aside from baseball, Elofson was the varsity goalkeeper for the Washburn boys' soccer team and helped lead the Millers to their first state championship tournament appearance in 26 years.  The unseeded Millers upset No.1 seed Minnetonka in overtime of the quarterfinals before finishing third in the 2015 State Championships.

During the year, Elofson plays baseball for the prestigious Twin Cities Baseball Academy (TCBA) in Minnesota.  The TCBA is a high-level baseball training, development and advancement organization that is the home of one of the top Minnesota Club baseball teams in the state and has already seen 24 of their athletes commit to numerous post-secondary institutions throughout North America.

Elofson, along with incoming recruit Ty Martin, will join the rest of the Humber Hawks baseball team on the first day of tryouts on August 21.
