HAWKS MEN’S BASEBALL TO FACE TOUGHEST TESTS TO DATE

ETOBICOKE, Ontario: The Humber Hawks men's baseball team, just a couple of games into the 2015 season, will faced with a couple of tough tests that will certainly make an impact on the final standings as they will travel to London on Friday to play Fanshawe, and then move on to Windsor to battle the two-time defending champion St. Clair Saints.

It will be an entire week since the Hawks battled an OCAA opponent, with the washout and postponement of the games against Seneca on Sunday. In fact, with the rainout, the Hawks will not have their home opener until October 3. The rainout, along with a quirk in the schedule, will have the Hawks play their first ten games on the road and then their last ten games all in the friendly confines of Connorvale Park.

The toughest of the road looks to face the Hawks this weekend, as they will open with the Fanshawe Falcons on Friday night. The two teams met only twice last year in regular season play, with a rainout that was not played, each team winning once. Fanshawe upset the Hawks in the opening game of the provincials, and went on to take the OCAA bronze medal. The Falcons return a number of talented starters and have added depth along the way. They opened this campaign with St. Clair and, although it was tight in one game, sit at 0-2 on the season.

Next up, after a late night arrival in Windsor, is the St. Clair Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Saints have won back to back OCAA titles, and have already flexed their muscles in two early season wins over Fanshawe.  The two teams have met on a number of occasions over the past few years, with most of them tight affairs, but with the Saints walking away with wins. This year both teams boast aces on the mound. Kyle Brietner, OCAA Pitcher of the Year, is sure toe the rubber for the Saints. It is unknown at this point if flame thrower Jeff Gibbs will get a start in London or Windsor.
