Williscroft headlines conference awards for No. 3 Women's Volleyball
ETOBICOKE – No. 3 Humber women's volleyball once again garnered numerous league accolades when the conference announced its yearly awards, which are determined by a poll of the OCAA coaches.
Kennedy Williscroft – the cornerstone of running a Humber offence that averaged a league-best 17.4 points per set – was named the OCAA Player of the Year. The second-year setter led the league averaging 8.73 assists-per-set and has developed into one of the more dominant players in the OCAA.
Williscroft becomes the first Humber setter to be named the conference player of the year and joins Caroline Fletcher (2000) as the only setters in team history to garner a CCAA All-Canadian selection.
With the 12th perfect season under his belt, Coach Wilkins was named the West Division Coach of the Year. Despite the 18-0 record and 12 players making their Humber debut this season, Wilkins has not received overall honours since 2009. During that span, he has a record of 299-16 (.949) against the OCAA, with 12 provincial titles and zero CCAA Coach of the Year nominations.
Hannah Manners and Amy Connelly joined Williscroft as first-team all-stars. Manners finished the season third in the conference in scoring, averaging a career-high 4.4 points-per-set, while finishing second averaging 0.93 aces-per-set.
Reese Cholette was named a second-team all-star for the second straight season, finishing sixth with an average of 3.58 digs-per-set. Newcomer Amanda Larsen set a new program record after averaging 0.93 block-per-set this season and was also named to the second team.
No. 3 Humber will now set its sights on winning its fourth straight provincial title, beginning with Cambrian in the quarter-final round on Feb. 15 at 1 pm. The match will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
