OCAA names six Humber legends for the 2025 Hall of Fame Class

TORONTO - Six Humber legends have been selected for induction into the OCAA Hall of Fame Class of 2025. The members of the class are: Tyrone Dickson (basketball), Adam Dong (badminton), Thalia Hanniman (volleyball), Patrick Rhodd (basketball), and coaches Teresa Arnini and Monique Haan (cross country). This class will be recognized at the 10th OCAA Hall of Fame ceremony at Pan Pacific Toronto on Monday, May 5.

"We are incredibly proud to see this group recognized as part of the OCAA Hall of Fame Class of 2025," said Ray Chateau, Humber director of athletics. "Their dedication, leadership, and excellence in their respective sports have impacted Humber Athletics. This honour is a testament to their hard work and the legacy they have built within our program. We congratulate them on this well-deserved achievement."

The 2025 class combined to capture 17 CCAA and 39 OCAA medals, including an astounding nine national and 21 provincial titles.

The OCAA Hall of Fame was established in 2003. Including this year's induction, membership will expand to 484 individuals. The 2021 induction class was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with expanded classes for 2023 and 2025.

Humber will now have 54 members enshrined in the OCAA Hall of Fame.

Tyrone Dickson (Basketball | 2012-17)

Tyrone Dickson played five seasons for Humber basketball and embodied what it means to don the navy and gold. He was a leader, a great teammate, and a winner.

A two-time CCAA championship all-star, Tyrone retired third all-time in scoring for the Hawks with 847 points while grabbing a program-record 728 rebounds. He’s also the all-time leader in blocked shots and one of two Humber players to earn the defensive player of the year award, twice.

Aside from his incredible stats, Tyrone’s legacy will be forever linked to “the putback” in the 2015 OCAA quarter-final against Lambton. Trailing by two in the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Tyrone caught a missed shot - in the air, making a sprawling layup and forcing overtime with 0.1 seconds left on the clock. The Hawks would go on to win the game, eventually returning to the CCAA mountaintop – capturing the program’s first national championship since 2001.

Easily one of the most dominant male badminton players in CCAA history, Adam Dong left a lasting imprint on Humber badminton. A national champion in every season he played, the Suzhou, China native never lost a set his entire career.

In 2015, partnering with Tracy Wong, he secured the mixed doubles gold at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships, marking Humber's first mixed doubles national title since 2010.

Dong's success continued as he teamed up with Ryan Chow. The duo dominated the men's doubles scene, clinching back-to-back national titles in 2016 and 2017. Their 2017 victory was particularly notable, as they defeated the duo from NAIT in straight sets (24-22, 21-12).

On the international stage, Dong represented Canada, partnering with Humber alumnus Nyl Yakura. The pair achieved significant success, including a gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games and participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

A five-time provincial champion between 2012 and 2016, Thalia never lost an OCAA-sanctioned match, finishing 105-0 in regular and post-season play. During that stretch, Humber won 315 sets while only dropping 36.

A four-time OCAA League All-Star, Thalia twice led the division in scoring, accumulating 785 career points, good for third all-time in Humber history, while her 0.80 aces per set average sits first all-time.

Thalia’s 2014-15 season led to a number of personal accomplishments after averaging a league-best 4.4 points per set and earning OCAA Player of the Year honours.

The Pembroke native led the Hawks to two CCAA final four appearances, including the program’s first national medal in 2016.

Patrick Rhodd (Basketball | 1989-93)

Celebrated as one of the most distinguished athletes in Humber men's basketball history, Patrick Rhodd concluded his collegiate career as the program's all-time leading scorer, amassing 1,164 points and becoming the second player to join Humber's 1,000-point club.

Rhodd's tenure was marked by exceptional team success. He was instrumental in leading the Hawks to three consecutive national titles from 1991 to 1993, and three provincial championships during the same period. Notably, in the 1991 OCAA championship game against rival Sheridan College, Rhodd hit the game-winning baseline jump shot with ten seconds remaining, capping off a remarkable comeback where the Hawks trailed by as much as 22 points in the second half.

Individually, Rhodd's accolades are second to none. He remains the only male athlete in Humber's history to be named Athlete of the Year three times consecutively. He is also the only player in program history to garner a CCAA All-Canadian selection three times.

Beyond scoring, Rhodd's leadership and ability to integrate his skills with team dynamics were pivotal to Humber's dominance during his years. His legacy is further cemented by his inclusion in the OCAA All-Millennium Team, Humber's All-Century Team, and the retirement of his jersey—a rare honour reflecting his profound impact on the program.

Teresa Arnini & Monique Haan (Cross Country | 2005-19)

After cross country ended at Humber in 1979, co-head coaches Teresa Arnini and Monique Haan were influential in returning the program to the Humber roster in 2005.

Together, Teresa and Monique formed a formidable coaching partnership, leading the Humber cross-country teams to consistent success. In just the program's second year, the duo led the Hawks to a double podium finish, winning the men's and women's provincial titles before the men's squad would go on to capture the CCAA bronze medal.

In 2011, led by Hall of Famer Vicky Siemon, the women's squad climbed the CCAA mountaintop, winning the first national gold medal in program history. The men's team followed suit three years later, winning its first national title after two straight podium finishes.

Their collaborative efforts as coaches resulted in multiple OCAA championships and CCAA accolades. Notably, they coached seven student-athletes to All-Canadian honours, underscoring their ability to develop top-tier talent.
