
Humber Badminton dominates at nationals with two golds and one silver

EDMONTON – The Humber Hawks left their mark at the 2025 CCAA National Badminton Championship, which concluded on Saturday at King's University in Edmonton, Alberta. Under the guidance of head coach Chloe Rowe, the team secured two gold medals in men's singles and women's doubles, along with a silver medal in mixed doubles. In addition to the medals, athletes Dhruvkumar Raval and Sherry Wu were honoured with the All-Canadians award, further elevating the team's prominence as one of the most decorated in the country this season.

Men's Singles – After winning the provincial title last month, Timothy Lock arrived determined to dethrone last year's champion and All-Canadian Thomas Ashton (UKC). In an aggressive and flawless performance, giving his opponent no chance, Lock secured a 2-0 victory with set scores of 21-7 and 21-14, claiming the coveted gold medal. In the battle for bronze, Hossein Ahmadi (TKU) defeated Sahil Lokhande (George Brown) 21-14, 21-6.
Women's Doubles – Shruti Joshi and Ayushi Vasava earned Humber Hawks' second gold medal by defeating Anna and Rachell Gilles (UKC) in a highly competitive match, 2-0 (21-17, 21-17). Both pairs showcased great technical skills in an evenly matched contest. Ultimately, the Navy and Gold duo displayed greater precision and technique in decisive moments, securing the national title. In the bronze medal match, Kaylee Choi and Sarah Song (George Brown) defeated Archelle Ouano and Ziyu Kong (SAIT) 2-1 (26-24, 12-21, 21-18).
Mixed Doubles – All-Canadians Dhruvkumar Raval and Sherry Wu fought hard but were ultimately defeated by Mahdi Ahmadi and Melissa Roque (TKU) in the mixed doubles final, earning the silver medal. The Hawks' duo won the first set 21-15 but could not withstand the home team's consistent play. In the end, the hosts secured gold with a 15-21, 21-15, 21-19 victory. In the bronze medal match, Sydney Arseneault and Krishna Bhatta (UNBSJ) defeated Davis Wong and Khushi Vaniya (NAIT) 2-1 (17-21, 21-8, 21-17).
