Hannah Manners and Amy Connelly led the charge for the Hawks, recording 25 points collectively, including Manners' game-high 14 points.
Match Recap
It was a bittersweet farewell at the Hawks' Nest as Humber women's volleyball played its final home game of 2024, with the team set to return on Jan. 2, 2025, against the Redeemer Royals. Despite being the underdog on paper, the Conestoga Condors, fueled by a three-game winning streak, aimed to upset the home crowd.
The Condors stuck to their game early, keeping the first set competitive as they trailed by just one point at 16-15. With Conestoga in the rear, the Hawks urgently needed to find their rhythm. Hannah Manners sat on the driver's seat, leading the first set with six points as Humber broke the Condors' momentum and closed it out 25-17.
After a hard-fought opening set, both teams returned to the court with the same intensity. While Conestoga never managed to take the lead, the Hawks struggled to maintain their momentum, building a comfortable lead at 16-9 to see the Condors close the gap. Leading 20-18, fourth-year outside hitter Lexie Zicari took control, scoring three of Humber's final five points to secure the second set 25-19.
With the scoreboard tight, the Condors battled to keep this match alive, reaching a 9-9 tie with the home team. However, mid-game proved to be Humber's best friend once again, as the Hawks surged ahead 19-14 with Amy Connelly and Caroline Klich's monstrous double block that forced Conestoga to call a timeout. Humber did not slow down after the quick break, staying hot and wrapping up the match 25-19.
Fourth-year player Averi Bodnar was named the Player of the Game, recording two kills and one service ace.
