HAWKS SHUTOUT HUSKIES AND WILL NOW LOOK FOR HELP

ETOBICOKE, ON: It was a must win game for the Humber Hawks Women's soccer team Tuesday night against the George Brown Huskies.

After dropping the weekends contest against the Sheridan Bruins, the Hawks found themselves sitting in second place in their division with one game to play.

Although the Hawks have already clinched a playoff spot, there was a possibility of the team finishing third in the division meaning they would be forced to play a do or die divisional crossover game. With a win the Hawks would avoid that match and instead reclaim first place, although their counterparts the Sheridan Bruins have a game in hand with a tough match to finish first.

In the first matchup between the Hawks and the George Brown Huskies, Humber took it by a final score of 4-1. Tuesday night's game would head in the same direction.

The Hawks, right from the get go applied pressure with hopes of putting the match away early and they were rewarded by their efforts midway through the first half.

Striker Stefany Santos scored on a strike from distance to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead and that opened the game right up. It wasn't long after that Ashley Osorio continued her goal scoring tear and added two goals before halftime to give Humber a 3-0 lead.

The second half featured the Hawks giving many rookies opportunities to get some minutes in before the provincial championships next week.

Humber was able to add another goal in the second half via attacker Corinna Vanderschaaf to make it 4-0, which would be the final.

Tania Serafino and Amanda Olvera split the game and both get credit for the clean sheet.

The Hawks rebounded from a loss like any good team should, with a big win. This team is full of talent and definitely has the ability to go far this season, hopefully bringing gold back to Humber in one weeks time.

Humber closes out the regular season with a 7-2-1 record good enough for at the very least second place in the central division.
