HAWKS SHUT OUT DEFENDING CHAMPION STING 3-0

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks Womens soccer team looked to give themselves some breathing room in the central division Tuesday night against the Seneca Sting.

The two sides previously met earlier in the year with that game ending in a 0-0 draw at Seneca College. This time around the Sting came to the home of the Hawks and had a hard time handling Humber.

The first half featured both teams creating chances and looking for that opening goal. It remained a scoreless draw up until the 33rd minute when Hawks forward Alexandria Kastanis turned and took a beautiful shot from distance, which just found its way under the crossbar for a 1-0 lead.

Getting the late goal was crucial for the Hawks as they were able to generate some momentum heading into half time with just some hope they could carry it into the second half.

The Hawks came flying out of the gate in the second half with Seneca struggling to keep up. Almost immediately the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to some great footwork from forward Ashley Osorio who then found forward Corinna Vanderschaaf for the easy tap in.

It wasn't much longer after that when Ashley Osorio added a goal of her own making it a 3-0 lead for the Hawks.

For the most part the Hawks played well on this night. The team was well positioned on the field and were great as a unit. The Hawks shut down the Stings top players which lifted them to a 3-0 victory.

A big congrats goes out to Hawks rookie goalkeeper Amanda Olvera who made her first college start on Tuesday night. Not an easy task against a tough Seneca side but Olvera looked calm and confident in goal and in the end earned her first college win along with her first college shutout.

The Hawks are now on a two-game winning streak and have given themselves some space from the Sting with three games remaining this regular season. The Hawks sit in first place three points ahead of the Sheridan Bruins.

Humbers next game is this Tuesday against the University of Toronto Mississauga at Centennial Park Stadium. Kick off is at 6:30 p.m.
