HAWKS MOVE INTO FIRST PLACE WITH WHITEWASH WIN

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario: The Humber Hawks womens team travelled to Mississauga to take on the University of Toronto Mississauga.

With a win in this game the Hawks would be pushed into first place ahead of the Seneca Sting.

Humber got off to a great start and dominated possession while providing the scoring chances in the first half.

They were rewarded for their good start when midfielder Lucy Lorefice hammered one home from the top of the 18-yard-box to make it 1-0; her second consecutive game with a goal.

They kept pressing and hit a goal post but that would be as close as they would get to adding another goal in the first half.

The second half featured more pressure from the Hawks right from the beginning but failed to put the ball in the back of the net as UTMs keeper made some big saves to keep her team in the game.

It wasn't until later in the second half that the Hawks extended their lead with two quick goals. One was an own goal and the other was from striker Stefany Santos who caught the goalkeeper off of her line and calmly chipped it in from outside the 18-yard-box.

The score would remain the same for the remainder of the game as the Hawks took this one by a score of 3-0.

Tania Serafino was in goal for the Hawks and earned the shutout.

The Hawks now improve to 3-0-1 on the season and have taken over top spot in the central division with 10 points.

Humber now has a two game winning streak and are starting to hit their stride. It is just the start for a very talented team who gets better with every game and are making an early case to being the team to watch.

The Hawks next game is Tuesday night at Centennial Park Stadium against the Niagara College Knights. The two teams met on opening day with Humber taking that game by a score of 2-1.

Kick off is at 6:30 P.M. following the men's game.
