HAWKS SOAR IN FIRST HALF ON WAY TO 7-0 WIN

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks Womens soccer team looked to stay ahead of the pack in the central division with a win on a cold and wet Tuesday night against the University of Toronto Mississauga.

This was the second and last meeting between the two teams with the Hawks taking the first match by a score of 3-0.

The Hawks currently sit in first place ahead of the Sheridan Bruins by two points so dropping points in this match would hurt Humber.

Humber got off to a good start applying pressure early on making their opponent's scramble causing many mistakes.

It remained tied nil-nil in the first half until the 28th minute, when Humber forward Ashley Osorio subbed into the match and was an immediate impact. She came into the match and immediately netted a hat trick in 10 minutes.

Shortly after it was Humber attacker Alexandria Kastanis who rushed down the middle and beat the defenders along with the goalkeeper before easily sliding it home for a 4-0 lead.

The score would remain the same up until halftime, but unfortunately for UTM the second half didn't get any better.

The Hawks came out in the second half and continued to score as UTM failed to hold their ground. Corinna Vanderschaaf, Lucy Lorefice and Alora Walcott all added second half goals to secure a 7-0 victory for the first-place Hawks.

UTM didn't have many chances but when they did, Humber's goalkeeper Amanda Olvera was there to keep UTM off the score sheet. Olvera played in her second straight game and recorded her second straight shutout.

The Hawks season now comes down to this Saturdays match when they take on the Sheridan Bruins in Oakville. The Bruins trail the Hawks by two points for first place in the central division. The Hawks also defeated the Bruins by a score of 2-1 in their last meeting.

Kick-off for this Saturdays match is at 12:00 p.m. at Sheridan's Oakville campus.
