HAWKS FALL TO SECOND IN CENTRAL AFTER LOSS TO SHERIDAN

ETOBICOKE, ON:  It was one of the biggest games of the season for the Humber Hawks Women's soccer team Saturday afternoon. The ladies went up against their biggest rival the Sheridan Bruins in a battle for first place.

The Hawks and Bruins have already met once this season, in what was a close game the first time around at Centennial Park Stadium that Humber took by a score of 2-1. This time around both teams gave everyone a great game, which went down to the wire.

It was a tough first half for both teams with the frigid temperatures. The weather threw many curveballs at both teams with a bit of rain, snow and some sunshine. The first half featured both teams going back and forth despite the temperatures and the Hawks and Bruins headed into half time tied at 1-1.

It was Hawks attacker Ashley Osorio who scored yet again for the Hawks. She continues to lead the Hawks game after game with her clinical finishing.

The second half featured more of the same play as both teams grinded and looked for that go ahead marker. It was a classic Humber vs Sheridan game, both rivals and both doing anything for their teams.

Fast forward to the 85th minute of the game. Both teams are tied 2-2 with striker Stefany Santos getting the second goal for the Hawks. The play picked up and there was urgency from both teams. A tie was not good enough for either side.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Bruins were able to capitalise in the 90th minute due to defensive mistakes by Humber. On more than one occasion the Hawks failed to clear the ball from around their 18-yard box and after a mad scramble in the box the Bruins were able to finish it right before the final whistle.

With the loss, Humber now sits in second place behind Sheridan by one point with one game remaining.

The Hawks could only hope to close out the regular season on a high when they take on the George Brown Huskies at Centennial Park Stadium. Hopefully they receive some help and are able to reclaim first place in the central division. Regardless the Hawks have clinched a playoff spot.

Tuesdays kick-off against the Huskies is at 6:30 p.m.
