OAKVILLE, Ont – A late goal in the dying minutes of regulation saw the No. 1 Humber men's soccer team (6-0, 1st Central) extend its unbeaten streak to 38 consecutive matches after a 3-2 win Saturday afternoon against the Sheridan Bruins (4-2, 3rd Central).
Getting the start against the division rival Bruins, Claudio Sereno did not disappoint. The second-year midfielder tallied two goals, minutes apart, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead at the 30-minute mark.
Sheridan pressed as the opening half concluded but keeper Daniel Voci – a former Bruin – continued to turn away every Bruin attack.
In the 48th minute, Sheridan was finally able to get on the board when Anthony Wright converted a bicycle kick that found the back of the net. The Bruins nearly tied the match in the 65th minute but Jamie Scott broke up Sheridan's best scoring opportunity, running down the attack before making a well-timed tackle in the box.
A difficult call in the 75th minute set up Sheridan's second goal of the match, allowing Mathew Santos to convert a penalty kick.
With time running out, the Bruins failed to clear the ball out of their zone and second-year forward Tomasz Balicki found the back of the net.
