HAWKS ROLL TO EASY 8-0 WIN OVER CONESTOGA

KITCHENER, Ont -- After struggling to find the back of the net in the first game of the season, the Humber Hawks men's soccer (2-0, 1st Central) team had no problem on Wednesday night defeating the Conestoga Condors (0-2, 6th Central) by a score of 8-0.

It was third-year forward Jaineil Hoilett who was unstoppable on the night for Humber. Whether it was scoring goals or setting up his teammates, Hoilett was too much for his opponents to handle.

Humber was dialled in from the opening whistle, holding possession of the ball and giving their opponent no chance at trying to gain any momentum. The Hawks just couldn't put it past the keeper early on.

After a few chances - within minutes - were cleared off the line, a bouncing ball found its way to first-year midfielder Joshua Portillo who hit the volley, stunning everyone and lifting the Hawks to a 1-0 lead.

It wasn't until midway through the first half when defender Cody Green found the back of the net after a thunderous header off a corner kick.

The Hawks would take a 2-0 lead into halftime; much due to the Condors defensive discipline of staying behind the ball and hard but clean play.

Fortunately for the Hawks, they hit their stride in the second half exploding for six more goals. Goals were coming left, right and centre from both rookies and veterans just proving how difficult and deep the team is.

It was a vast improvement for the reigning Canadian national champions who have won both their games this season but struggled in their season opener versus UTM.

The Hawks will now travel to Sudbury to take on a feisty Cambrian Golden Shield (0-1, 5th Central) in the two sides first meeting of the season.
