PETERBOROUGH, Ont -- The No. 1 Humber men's soccer team (10-0, 1st Central) will begin the 2017 OCAA Soccer Championship Thursday against Fleming (3-6-1, 5th East), the host school of the championship.

The Opening Kickoff

  • Humber will be making its 25th consecutive OCAA postseason appearance, in search of its conference-best 12th provincial title.
  • The Hawks won the division pennant for the 22nd time in program history.
  • Humber finished the season with the top scoring offence (34 goals for) and top-ranked defence (four goals against).

Last Time Out
Humber concluded the regular season unbeaten for the fourth consecutive year with a 1-0 win at home against the Sheridan Bruins (5-5, 3rd Central).  Nick Frenati picked up his fourth win and the fourth clean sheet of the season.  Michael Aigbokie scored in his final regular season match, recording his second goal in as many games.

Shutout Streak
Humber's goalkeepers – comprised of Eugenio Garro, Nick Frenati, and Daniel Voci – have recorded four straight clean sheets, and have not allowed a goal in 375 minutes.

Scouting Humber
The Humber defensive unit recorded a league-best seven clean-sheets, holding opponents to a mere 3.3 shots on goal-per-game. 

Luca Baldassarre and Jaineil Hoilett finished in the top-ten in scoring, ending fourth and sixth respectively.

1,099 Days
It has been 1,099 days since the Hawks last lost a soccer match, after extending its unbeaten streak to 42 straight last Wednesday against Sheridan.

With a record of 41-0-1 against CCAA completion, the Hawks own a plus-140 goal differential with 29 clean sheets during the streak.

2006 OCAA Rookie of the Year??
Fifth-year player Michael Aigbokie, the 2006 OCAA rookie of the year, will end his career as the second all-time leading scorer in Humber history, with 31.  Entering the season in a tie with Aleks Janjic, Aigbokie scored in the 83rd minute to become the first player to record 30 goals in a career since OCAA Hall of Famer Jesse Calabro accomplished the feat in 2000.

Scouting Fleming
As the host of the 2017 OCAA Championship tournament, the Fleming Knights were given an automatic berth.  The Knights finished the season in fifth place in the East division, ending the year with a 0 goal differential.

Sam Barratt led Fleming between the posts, earning three wins in nine starts. 

Offensively, Fleming was led by Duncan Allen and Matthew Dawe, each recording three goals on the season.

Last Meeting
These two programs last met during the 2015 OCAA Championship quarter-final, hosted by Humber College.  Humber squeezed by with a narrow 3-2 win, with two goals coming from Michael Aigbokie.  Fleming was one of two teams to score two goals on Humber that season.

Humber has been the top-ranked program in the country since the beginning of the 2016 season. 

At the Helm
Michael Aquino returns for his fifth season as the head coach of the Humber men's soccer program. The 2017 CCAA Coaching Excellence Award recipient has led the Hawks to three national championships, three provincial championships, and an overall record of 61-2-4.
