SOFTBALL RECEIVES PROGRAM RECORD THREE ALL-STAR SELECTIONS
ETOBICOKE, Ont -- At the 2017 OCAA Softball Athletics Award Banquet Thursday evening, the Humber women's softball team came away with numerous individual accolades.
After winning a program record 16 games this season, three student-athletes left the ceremony with a combined four awards.
Headlining the evening was Aaliyah Davidson, who was named the OCAA Player of the Year (full story here), becoming the first Hawk to win the award since 2012. Davidson was also named an OCAA All-Star for the second consecutive year.
Terah Camilleri was named an all-star for the first time, finishing the 2017 campaign with a .440/.423/.760 slash line. The third-year catcher from Streetsville is one of the top catchers in the league, beating opponents with her bat and her arm. In a pinch-hit appearance against Mohawk, Camilleri hit a walk-off home run, the ninth of her career.
Rounding out the winners for Humber was second-year shortstop Jenna Hillman. The Tecumseh native stole a team-high 14 bases while leading the team with 23 runs scored. A dynamic bat from the leadoff position, Hillman reached base safely in all but three games this season.
Humber softball has now accumulated ten all-stars selections since 2011.
The end of the banquet marks the beginning of the 2016 OCAA Championship, hosted by Humber College. The Hawks open the four-team tournament Oct. 20 against the Durham Lords (17-7, 2nd OCAA) at the Brampton Fairgrounds. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network.
