TEAM ONTARIO PLAYER SET TO JOIN HAWKS SOFTBALL

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- With the interim tag officially removed, women's softball head coach Duaine Bowles can now begin focusing on the 2017 softball season.  Looking to improve on last season's 13-11 record, Coach Bowles and the Hawks have announced the signing of highly-touted recruit Alexa Vassos.

Considered one of the top graduating players in Ontario, Vassos received offers from both sides of the border, before accepting her offer of admission to the University of Guelph-Humber's Criminology program.  Vassos' strong arm and quick feet will give the Hawks much needed depth across the infield.

"I believe Alexa is a perfect fit for our program," said Coach Bowles.  "Her versatility will be a tremendous asset for us this season and in the future."

Graduating from St. Marcellinus Secondary School in Mississauga, Vassos, 17, was recently selected to represent the U21 Ontario team at the upcoming 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

"I'm very happy with my decision to attend the University of Guelph-Humber," said Vassos, who also plays for the Mississauga Southwest Hurricanes.  "It has a great program, community, and softball team, which makes it the perfect fit for me."

Coach Bowles believes his newest Hawk has everything needed to succeed at the OCAA level.

"Alexa is incredibly talented but equally as grounded, putting as much effort into her academics as she does on the diamond.  A repeat honour roll member, I believe her character is exemplary, and it won't be long before Hawks Nation sees what a great ambassador Alexa is for being successful the Humber way."

Vassos will officially join the Hawks in August when training camp begins.
