HAWKS ON ROAD SUNDAY TO PLAY NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
September 26, 2015
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario: The Humber Hawks women’s soccer team looks to build a winning streak when they take on the University of Toronto Mississauga Sunday afternoon. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. This is also the first time these two teams have met, with this being UTMs first season as part of college soccer. The Hawks are coming off of a big win on Tuesday when they defeated their rivals the Sheridan Bruins by a score of 2-1, whereas UTM is coming off a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Seneca Sting. The Hawks currently sit in second place behind the Seneca Sting by one point however they also have one game in hand along with one more matchup with Seneca. Humber is led by a group of veteran players with a mix of rookies as well starting from the goalkeeper and moving forward to their strikers. One of the biggest pieces to this women’s team Alora Walcott has been dominant. Since her rookie year in 2012, she has continuously stepped up her game and has become a big reason as to why the Hawks are always contenders. Other key veterans include defender Justine Robb who has been great defensively, midfielder Jayde Wiklund-Roach who has provided much of the offensive chances with her great vision and striker Stefany Santos who has been giving defenders a hard time trying to defend her. All four of those players were also on the last Humber women’s team to travel to nationals, which was in 2012. On a positive note for the Hawks, defender Rachel Spratt who left Tuesday’s game against Sheridan with a head/facial injury, has been cleared to play and is sporting quite the shiner. Midfielder Ashley Osorio also looks to be returning to the line-up after she suffered an injury in practice last week. Kick-off is at 1:00 P.M.ET and will be followed by the Humber men’s team in a double-header.
