Women's Curling Head Coach Cindy Bishop Steps Down After Eight Seasons
ETOBICOKE, Ont -- Cindy Bishop, the moving force and first coach of the Humber Hawks curling team when it was revived in 2011 after a long absence, has stepped down from her role as the head coach of the very successful Humber Hawks women's curling team.
Cindy was the key in obtaining a home for the Hawks, as Weston Curling Club was the venue over the first seven years. This past year, the team switched to the Dixie Curling Club. As the curling professional at Weston, she was able to secure practice and game time at the club, while initiating the incredibly successful Humber Cup events.
"Cindy's passion for the game and for the student-athletes was evident from the start," said Humber Director of Athletics, Ray Chateau. "She not only found success early and often with the teams, but she was also able to make the curling program an essential part of the Humber varsity program."
The women's team flourished in their first season of OCAA play in the 2011-12 season, capturing OCAA silver.
The 2016-17 was magical for Humber curling teams. Not only did the women's team win their first OCAA Provincial gold, but the men's and mixed teams also joined in to sweep the entire podium for the first time by any team in history.
Humber was very close to CCAA National gold on two occasions, finishing up with silver in back to back seasons of 2013-14 and 2014-15.
This past year the Hawk women soared once again, snaring OCAA silver.
In her time as the lead of the entire Hawks program, her teams won seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals provincially, and four on the national stage.
