HAWKS WOMEN’S CURLERS ADVANCE TO OCAA GOLD MEDAL GAME ON SUNDAY
HAMILTON, ON: The Humber Hawks women's curling checked off two significant boxes at the 2019 OCAA Curling Championships on Saturday at the Glendale Curling Club in Hamilton, but there is a final box they would like to put a big "X" in, and that is capturing OCAA gold.
The first was a semi-final win that brings a gold medal game on Sunday, and the second is a trip to the 2019 CCAA National Championships out East in a few short weeks.
Humber, who entered the playoffs as the second seed, had an identical 3-1 round robin record as the first place Fanshawe Falcons. Fanshawe got the nod, as they defeated Humber in the head to head match-up.
The Hawks advanced to the gold game by scoring in the eighth and final end of a heart-stopping match, to win 5-4 over the host Mohawk Mountaineers.
Fanshawe needed an extra end to oust the pesky Fleming Knights squad.
The gold medal game is slated for 9:00 am.
