HAWKS HOST CAMBRIAN ON SATURDAY EVENING

ETOBICOKE, ON: The league-leading Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (7-0, 1st West) will conclude the first half of the season this coming weekend with a couple of home matches against a pair of clubs from Sudbury. Humber will start on Saturday evening with a match versus Cambrian Golden Shield.

LAST TIME OUT

The Hawks delivered their best performance of the season last Wednesday at home in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-23) sweep of the fourth place Niagara Knights. Tough serving and consistent passing were the keys to victory, as service kept the Knights at bay, while the pass led to a kill percentage of .343 for the home team. Breanna once again led the Hawks on the night, contributing 9 kills towards her game-leading point total of 12.

THE MATCH-UPS

vs. Cambrian "Golden Shield"
3-5, 7th West
Humber Athletic Centre – Etobicoke

SCOUTING CAMBRIAN

  • Cambrian continues to have some of the best leadership the league, as head coach Dale Beausoleil returns for his 28th year at the helm of the Golden Shield
  • Humber and Cambrian joined each other in division play in the 2013 season, after not facing each other in league play for ten years. The Hawks lead the series 14-8, but this includes a perfect 8-0 since Cambrian joined the West
  • The Shield boasts a nice mix of veterans (8) and freshmen (4) players, with Hayley Chisholm playing in her 5th and final year
  • Jillian Vallier leads the way offensively, as she checks in with a solid mark of 3.0 points per set average. Chisholm, at 2.7 pps, leads another three players who are scoring above the 2.2 mark
  • At first glance, Cambrian is solid in many areas with the exception of the key element of blocking. They sit near the bottom of the league in blocks and blocks per set

 HAWK NOTES

  • Humber has rolled to three straight-set wins since the 3-2 road win over Mohawk
  • Breanna Golding has risen in the ranks of overall OCAA scoring, and now sits in third with a mark of 4.2 pps average
  • Devan O'Connor and Jasmine Lougheed are not far behind, with averages of 3.5 and 3.2 pps, respectively
  • After the solid outing against Niagara, Humber has risen to the top in league hitting percentage, now with a mark of .325. They are also first in blocks per set average, at 2.52.
  • Assists per set and kills per set go hand-in-hand, and Humber currently places second in both categories

HISTORY WATCH

  • Every time Humber wins a game, history is made. Head coach Chris Wilkins keeps building on his all-time coaching wins list, and he now sits at 324 victories. The team has just hit 137 straight OCAA league and playoff wins, an all-time OCAA record in any sport
