LOUGHEED SISTERS COMMIT TO HUMBER VOLLEYBALL
ETOBICOKE, Ont – Humber College women's volleyball head coach Chris Wilkins and staff are excited to announce the signing of the Lougheed sisters, Jasmine and Trinity, to the program for the upcoming 2017-18 season.
Hailing from St. Catharines, Ont., Jasmine is a five-foot-ten middle, while younger sister Trinity is a five-foot-eight middle.
Jasmine brings plenty of experience to a young Humber roster after playing last season for NCAA Division 1 Coppin State University. In her first taste of NCAA volleyball, Jasmine was named to the 2016 Kristen Dickmann All-Tournament team.
"The coaching staff is looking forward to having Jasmine join the Hawks," said Coach Wilkins, who needs two wins to become Humber Athletics all-time winningest coach. "She is someone we have been watching grow through her club career and while she was playing in the NCAA. She is a tremendous athlete with explosive power who can play many positions on the court and we're excited to see what she can do in the CCAA."
Before Coppin State University, Jasmine was a standout for the Niagara Fury and Defensa Volleyball. With Niagara, Jasmine was teammates with current Humber setter Celine Blanchette.
Hoping to open her own daycare one day, Jasmine has enrolled in Humber's Early Childhood Education program.
"I chose Humber College because of the excellent volleyball program and, of course, Coach Wilkins," said Jasmine. "I've heard so many positive things regarding the campus and athletic community; it was an easy decision."
Younger sister Trinity has just concluded her final year at Laura Secord Secondary School. A multi-sport athlete, Trinity was named most valuable player for the junior girls track and field and junior girls volleyball teams in 2014-15.
"Trinity committed to Humber late in the recruiting stage, but fortunately for us, we were able to have her join the Hawks," said Coach Wilkins. "Similar to her sister Jasmine she has a ton of athletic ability and I believe will get stronger with each practice. Her energy and work ethic is incredible and what caught my eye about Trinity was her never quit attitude. Every team needs someone like that, and I believe her work ethic will be contagious, and she will make everyone around her better. Can't wait to see her in the navy and gold."
Trinity has enrolled in the Health and Fitness Promotion program at Humber and will begin her post-secondary career this September.
When asked what athletic accomplishment she was most proud of, Trinity responded: "Being invited to join the Humber Hawks."
"We are excited that both Jasmine and Trinity will be joining our Hawks family," added Coach Wilkins.
The Lougheed sisters, along with incoming recruits Alexandra Krstonosic, Nicole Collard and Alex Bartmann will join the rest of the Humber Hawks volleyball team on the first day of tryouts on September 5 at the North Campus Gym.
