HAWKS TURN IN BEST MATCH OF SEASON IN 3-0 SWEEP OF NIAGARA

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks women's volleyball team (7-0, 1st West) were close to perfection over the first two sets, and then closed out the match in the third, in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-23) win on home court against the dangerous Niagara Knights (4-2, 3rd West) club.
Heading into the game with first place on the line, it was the Hawks that soared right from the start, dominating after the first few points were played. The 25-12 set score was truly indicative of the play from the home squad, as they served tough, passed well and out balls away consistently.
The second set was more of the same, with the only difference being Humber's strong net play. A number of key blocks kept the Knights at bay, and at points made the visitors alter their game plan.
The third set saw Niagara come out strong and they held an early lead. The Hawks battled back, and took a lead that would waiver at points, but one they would not surrender. Give the Knights full credit for their efforts in the final stanza, earning every single of their 23 points. Ultimately, Humber closed the set and the match to send the large home crowd home happy.
"I was pleased with our effort", said Hawks head coach and birthday boy Chris Wilkins. "We did a number of things very well, and that is huge, especially against a good team like Niagara".
Only one Hawk was able to check in with double digits in offensive points, and that was outside hitter Breana Golding. She combined 9 kills, with 2 aces and 1 block for 12 points. Player of the Game Nicole Pollard and Jasmine Lougheed contributed 9 points each. Rachel Rivers of the Knights scored 10 to lead the Niagara squad on the night.
The Hawks will now end the first half of the regular season next weekend at home, as the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boreal Vipers pay a visit to the Humber Athletic Centre.
