DEFENDING PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS SIGN ALEX BARTMANN

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks women's volleyball program – winners of 10 consecutive provincial championships – have signed setter Alex Bartmann for the upcoming 2017-18 volleyball season announced head coach Chris Wilkins.

"Alex is a great addition to our program," said Coach Wilkins, who has a 317-41 record in 17 seasons as Humber's head coach. "She understands what it takes to win a provincial and national championship and has that winning edge."

Graduating Uxbridge Secondary School, Bartmann has played high-caliber volleyball since she was in grade four.  During that span, she won numerous titles, including one national and two provincial championships.

A two-time athlete of the year, Bartmann and the Uxbridge Tigers won the 2016 OFSAA AAA Championship.

"Her court sense and understanding of the game will be a tremendous asset to the team, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she can do with our high-powered offence," added Coach Wilkins.  "Being in a four-year program, we're excited to watch Alex grow and become a key member of a deep team."

No stranger to Humber volleyball, Bartmann is quite familiar with the reigning OCAA rookie of the year Breanna Golding.

"I actually grew up with Breanna," said Bartmann.  "Our mom's have played volleyball together for years."

Bartmann will be attending the University of Guelph-Humber starting in September after enrolling in the Criminal and Justice Studies program.

"I chose Guelph-Humber because it offers the program I want while getting an opportunity to play for an amazing volleyball program," added Bartmann.
