Women’s Curling

Humber 6 vs Niagara 4

The Hawks played ping pong curling with the Knights through the first four ends, but it was the Hawks who scored twice in the fourth and held the slim one-point lead at the four-end break.

Humber, playing well, held Niagara to a single point in the fifth.

The sixth end, at least to this point in the match was the turning point. Humber fought through, making multiple great shots to grab a huge two-point lead with two ends to play. Fine play limited Niagara to one point, and Humber held a one-point lead heading home, but with the hammer.

Niagara played brilliant, lying three and with a shot at a come from behind victory. But, they left the door just ajar, and it was Hawks Skip Cassie Paccanaro who came through with the shot of the tournament. Her draw curled around a couple of guards and rested right upon the centre dot, just nudging the Knights back. Hawks score! Hawks win!

Mixed Curling

Humber 6 vs Sault 2 (7 ends)

Humber gave up steals on a single point in the two first ends, but then focused and flew to victory.

The Hawks continuously put pressure on the home town Cougars and scored in six consecutive ends. The seventh end, where the Hawks had the Cougars extend their hand to congratulate Humber on its win, was a three pointer. The amazing thing about the

The seventh end, where the Hawks had the Cougars extend their hand to congratulate Humber on its win, was a three pointer. The amazing thing about the win is that the Hawks were just as dangerous with or without the hammer.

Men’s Curling

Humber 6 vs Fanshawe 4

After back-to-back blank ends to start the championship match, the Hawks broke the ice by scoring two in the third and held on to a one point lead at the fourth end break.

Although Humber extended the lead in the fifth, it was the sixth that provided the turning point of the game.

An enormous three-point effort seemingly put the game out of reach. Fanshawe, being consistently one of the best programs in the country, would not die and scored three of their own when Humber was trying to run them out of rocks. With the hammer and heading home in the eighth, Humber did run the Falcons out of rocks to snare their first championship of this curling era.
