HAWKS HOST 2009 CCAA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP; CAPTURE TWO MEDALS

In 2009, Humber Athletics hosted the CCAA Badminton National Championship, only four short years after returning badminton to the varsity lineup.

With the badminton community watching, Humber hosted a memorable event and made history in the process.

Charlie Lay and Alang Luangrath captured the program’s first national medal after winning a bronze medal against Mount Royal College.

Shortly after, brothers Ray and Mark Wong battled for the men’s singles bronze, as Ray went on to win Humber’s second national medal.

In the years following, Hawks badminton has become a national powerhouse, capturing 16 CCAA medals, six of which were gold.
