HUMBER HOSTS FIRST CCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

HUMBER HOSTS FIRST CCAA CHAMPIONSHIP

Over the last five decades, Humber Athletics has hosted numerous CCAA National Championships, with the first taking place in 1983.

Still in its infancy, Humber basketball failed to qualify for the postseason that year, after finishing with a 7-17 record. (Note – 1983 was the last year the Hawks finished a season with more than six losses.)

Despite not being present at the championship, Humber Athletics went on to host the top-eight basketball programs in the country, beginning its rich tradition of championship hosting excellence.

The Dawson College Blues captured the 1983 title, with a close 88-87 victory over Vancouver Community College. It was the Blues’ third title in nine years.

The Hawks would not capture their first CCAA crown until 1991, creating a powerhouse that would go on to win four titles in five seasons.
