PAUL JACKSON SETS OCAA CAREER POINTS RECORD

PAUL JACKSON SETS OCAA CAREER POINTS RECORD

As a forward for the Humber Hawks hockey team from 1987-90, Paul Jackson left an ever-lasting impressing on the OCAA. A CCAA All-Canadian, Jackson led the Hawks to three OCAA provincial championships and two CCAA medals, including a silver medal in his final season.

With an all-time record of 86-17 (.835), Jackson set the OCAA records for assists (63) and points (93) during the 1988-89 season.

In his final year with the Hawks, he established a new association best, when he scored eight goals in a win against Seneca.

When Jackson's career concluded with Humber, he sat number one all-time in OCAA history with 213 career points.

HAWKS SCORE AGAIN

The Humber Hawks hockey team spoiled Seneca's party on Feb. 8 with a convincing 5-2 win. Almost lost in the excitement were four-point nights by the Hawks’ Paul Jackson and Kent Falby.

Pre-game ceremonies at Seneca had former Brave all-star Steve Guyatt have his sweater retired in an emotional tribute. Guyatt had, until recently, held the career scoring record of 200 points. That record was broken by the Hawks’ Paul Jackson.

Ah, but back to the game. The contest sparked very little chippiness, as the Hawks and Braves skated through 40 minutes of play deadlocked at two apiece.

After the Hawks took a 1 -0 lead by Jackson, the Braves managed to tie it up when Remo Tucci scored with only 25 seconds left in the opening frame.

The Braves grabbed the lead three and a half minutes into the second when Dave Kiratzis converted a nifty pass from Art West into the Hawk net.

Inspired by Greco's work, Jackson slipped his second goal of the game past a startled Brave goalie at 9:17 of the second period.

It was at this point that a frustrated Greg Quattrin, coach of the Braves, vented his spleen in the direction of the officials. Not merely satisfied with exchanging pleasantries with the referee, Quattrin proceeded to inform him of just how bad a job he was doing. After being warned several times to keep quiet, Quattrin was given the heave-ho by the referee.

Smelling a victory, the Hawks came out skating in the third period scoring three unanswered goals. Assisted by both Jackson and Falby, Andy Rivers put the Hawks out to stay at 4:42 of the third. Goals by Joe Washkurak and Falby salted away the win for the Hawks who still trail the Georgian Grizzlies by two points for top spot.
