The Storyline
No. 5 Humber men's basketball (17-1, 1st West) returns to the North Campus Gym Feb. 13 for its final regular season home game. The Hawks will host Mohawk (7-10, 8th West), with tipoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
The game will be streamed live on the Hawks Sports Network at 8 p.m. with Kyle Dalton and Matt Hamel on the call, and Danielle Dupuis reporting from the sidelines.
The Matchup
All-time, the Hawks are 55-23 against the Mountaineers, including 27-7 at the North Campus Gym. Humber has won seven straight contests against Mohawk, including an 86-79 win in the 2016 provincial title game.
Scouting Mohawk
- The Mountaineers are led by freshman standout Emanuel Otong and his 25.4 PPG. Otong is averaging 35 minutes and 21.8 field goal attempts per game.
- Mohawk is on a two-game winning streak, including a 100-99 victory over Sheridan. The Mountaineers had three players score 20-plus points, including Cudjoe Masuka's 20-point, 14-rebound double-double.
- With three games remaining, Mohawk is currently on the brink of missing the 2019 postseason, sitting two points behind St. Clair (8-10, 7th West) for the final playoff spot.
Last Time Out
Less than a day after clinching its first division title since 2015, Humber lost its first game of the season at Redeemer on Feb. 9, 106-74. The Royals put on a shooting clinic in front of their home crowd, finishing 14-of-28 (50.0 per cent) from 3-point range.
Seniors Night
Wednesday will be the last regular season home game for Jordan Rose and Curwin Elvis - the only players remaining from Humber's 2015 National Championship team.
1983
Humber basketball continues to be the premier program in the province. The Hawks have qualified for the OCAA postseason every year since the 1983 – a span of 36 seasons.
Exclusive Company
Since 1978, over 300 players have donned the blue and gold and less than ten per cent have joined the 500-point club. Third-year guard DeQuon Cascart has a chance at joining this elite company, currently sitting 37 points shy of the 500-point club.
With 292 points through 18 games, forward Jaylan Morgan is close to becoming the 15th player in program history to join the 300-point club.
Moving On Up
In Humber's come-from-behind win over Niagara, senior Curwin Elvis moved into ninth all-time on Humber's career scoring list. With two games remaining, Elvis has a chance to become the first player in program history to play in 90 career regular season games.
