ELVIS' CAREER-HIGH LIFTS No. 3 HUMBER OVER FANSHAWE, 82-70

ETOBICOKE, Ont – No. 3 Humber men's basketball (13-0, 1st West) used a 51-point second half to beat Fanshawe (9-4, 4th West), 82-70, Sunday afternoon at the North Campus Gym. The win gave head coach Samson Downey his 13th straight to begin the season – the most by a Humber first-year head coach.

Senior Curwin Elvis finished with a career-high 26 points, finishing 11-of-13 (84.6 per cent) from the free throw line. Freshman Kevin Otoo added 17 points, while Jordon Francis added 12 points of his own. Jaylan Morgan recorded his first double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead to begin the game before Fanshawe used an 18-5 run in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead with 4:26 remaining. A deep three-pointer from Fowzi Mohamoud stopped the run, and Humber cut into the lead and trailed by one at the break. Fanshawe held the Hawks to 23.1 per cent (nine-of-39) from the floor in the first half.

With a three-point lead with 0:28 remaining in the third, Humber's offence went on a 20-5 run over the next five minutes of game time to seal the victory. The Hawks shot 53.6 per cent (15-of-28) from the floor in the second half.

  • Humber improves to 24-7 all-time against Fanshawe at the North Campus Gym.
  • Coach Downey became the first head coach to win his first 13 regular season games to begin a career, surpassing Shawn Collins' record from the 2010-11 season.
  • The Hawk hits a season-high 31 free throws, finishing 31-of-39 (79.5 per cent) from the line.
