HAWKS DROP TIGHT 89-86 EXHIBITION TILT ON HOME COURT TO U GUELPH

Game Story by Ronny Musikitele

ETOBICOKE, ON: The Humber Hawks men's basketball team took on a challenging opponent in the University of Guelph to open up its 2018 exhibition schedule on Tuesday night at the Humber Athletic Centre.

The newly assembled Hawks Men's basketball team was handed their first exhibition lost by the Guelph Gryphons on Tuesday night at the Humber Athletic Centre. In a game that came down to the final buzzer, the Hawks fell short with an 89-86 lost.

A promising start to the game had the Hawks with a 19-18 point lead at the end of the first quarter. After giving up a 13-2 run to begin the second quarter the Hawks continued to fight back and finished the first half trailing 46-38.

The Hawks came out the second half on fire, as the fast paced offense got back to their identity and outscored the Guelph Gryphons 28-19 in the third quarter. After a buzzer beater from Mohamoud to end the quarter, the Hawks went into the fourth quarter with a 66-65 lead.

The two teams traded blows in the fourth quarter and both played aggressively which led to many free throws attempts for both teams. Despite the two teams playing an up-tempo style all game long, the Hawks failed to find consistency from the field, as they finished the game shooting 36% from the field.

"I thought the effort was great at time, and at times we didn't give effort. We were down a couple of guys so we were short roster wise. But overall, they competed and that's all you could really ask for. I see us making strides and then I see us taking steps backwards so it's just a matter of staying consistent" Said head coach Samson.

Look out for this Friday as the Humber Hawks is looking to bounce back as they are set to battle Canadore College in North Bay and Nipissing University on Saturday.
