HAWKS CAPTURE 2015 CCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE
CHILLIWACK, BC: The Humber Hawks women's golf team, leaders from Day One on, have been crowned the 2015 CCAA Women's Golf National Champions. This is the Hawks women fourth national title, and the first since the 2008-09 season.
This is the Hawks fourteenth National Golf title, and thirty-first CCAA Championship overall.
The threesome of Sonia Nagindas, Michaela DiMarcantonio and Sheila McKeen combined for a three round score of 473, which gave them an eight stroke win over the silver medalists from UBC Okanagan. Georgian College, who defeated the Hawks for the OCAA title, grabbed bronze, finished eighteen strokes back of the Humber squad.
The Hawks led by four strokes over Georgian after the first round, and then extended the lead to ten strokes over UBC after two. The third saw Humber protect the lead, and actually moved it up to an eleven stroke difference late in the round.
In the event that three players play each round, where two of the best scores count towards the team's daily total, Humber was a golfer short as Sheila McKeen had to return to Toronto after the second round. Sonia Nagindas and Michaela DiMarcantonio stepped up and carried the Hawks the rest of the way to the title. In fact Michaela DiMarcantonio had her best round of the tournament and finished fifth overall.
Sonia Nagindas, who finished with a solid 78 on the day, finished the individual side of the event as the CCAA Bronze Medalist. She also led the team on Round One, with her tournament best showing of 76.
