HAMILTON - After an incredible 10-game winning streak, the No. 10 women's basketball team in the country was defeated 74-60 on Wednesday night by the Mohawk Mountaineers in Hamilton. With an outstanding performance by forward Kendra Oliver (26 points and 18 rebounds), the home team managed to halt the momentum of Ceejay Nofuente's squad. With this result, the Hawks fall to second place in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) West Division standings, holding a 10-2 (0.833) record, trailing the Niagara Knights at 10-1 (0.909).
Game Recap
The Hawks and Mountaineers clashed in a fierce battle from the start of the game. Trying to recover from a loss to Niagara (66-61), the home team never let Humber settle. Kendra Oliver was a nightmare in the paint. Her 26 points marked a season-high for the No. 35, supported by valuable contributions from Angong Jacob (18 pts and five rebounds) and Malak Dahawy (15 points and five rebounds) in orchestrating key offensive plays.
Despite the Mountaineers' intensity from the outset, the Hawks managed to control the game through the first two quarters. Shooting guard Kia Watt again led the team with 22 points and seven rebounds. It was the fourth consecutive game where the No. 8 scored over 20 points and the sixth of the season. With this achievement, the veteran surpassed former Hawk Aleena Domingo (1,134 points), becoming the second all-time top scorer for the Navy and Gold in OCAA history (1,144).
After halftime, with the Hawks leading 37-36, the game seemed poised for a potential victory. However, the Mountaineers continued preventing visitors from finding their usual rhythm. The balance lasted until the final seconds of the third quarter, when guard Malak Dahawy nailed a spectacular three-pointer, energizing the crowd and giving Mohawk a 55-52 lead.
The Hawks felt the blow. Returning for the fourth quarter, the team lost their way on the court. In a dominant stretch, Kendra Oliver and company scored repeatedly, extending the lead to 13 points. At this point, there was no turning back. The home team controlled the pace and the clock to close the game at 74-60—a night to forget.
