ETOBICOKE - No. 11 Humber women's basketball (7-1, 2nd West) stayed hot against St. Clair (3-5, 6th West), winning their seventh straight in commanding fashion with a final score of 72-55. It was another deep team effort from Humber, with 11 different Hawks getting on the scoreboard. Kia Watt led the way offensively in this one, scoring 18 and adding six rebounds, but critical performances from Persia Martin-Brown and Tsinat Geremew secured Humber's victory. Martin-Brown had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds, and Geremew added 10 of her own while going 4/5 from the field.

Game Recap

Riding a six-game winning streak, Humber felt great coming into a matchup against a team far below them in the standings. The Hawks started hot, going on an 8-0 run to start the game. The rookie Persia Martin-Brown got Humber rolling, scoring the squad's first four points in the game's first two possessions.

From there on, the 11th-ranked team in the nation dominated. The Hawks scored consistently and efficiently, cutting to the inside and drawing fouls while locking down defensively, blocking passing lanes, and contesting shots.

Martin-Brown was the catalyst for Humber's offence in the opening quarter. The first-year guard scored a game-high seven points in the first. Humber would lead 23-11 after ten minutes, with the quarter being capped off by a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Sarah Baptie

It was more of the same for the Hawks during the second. Sustained offensive pressure and aggressive defence were clearly their focus, and they executed the game plan pretty much to perfection.

It was another complete effort for Humber, as the squad had nine players on the scoreboard after 20 minutes, showcasing their ability to spread around the scoring and rely on role players. At halftime, Humber's bench had scored 19 points, just four less than St. Clair's entire team.

Going into the break, Humber led 42-23, amid one of their best offensive games of the season.

Back from the break, the pace of play slowed considerably. St. Clair was focused on clogging the passing lanes that were allowing Humber to dominate. In return, the Hawks were perfectly content to sit back, focus on defence, and lean on their 20-point lead.

The Hawks held their commanding lead, going into the fourth quarter leading 63-41 on the back of Kia Watt's game-high 15 points.

Humber came out quickly for the fourth, showing a resurgence of energy after a slower third quarter.

After a few minutes, St. Clair started showing the resilience they needed three quarters ago. The Saints would hold Humber to just nine points in the quarter, outscoring them 14-9 in the final ten minutes of the game.

It was too little too late for the Saints, though, as Humber's lead was insurmountable. The Hawks would cruise to an easy(ish) 72-55 victory, increasing their winning streak to seven.
