NICK TRICHILO NAMED 2017 OCAA COACH OF THE YEAR

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont – The No. 5 Humber men's golf team added more Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) individual honours to the program's rich history Wednesday evening. Hawks head coach Nick Trichilo was named the 2017 OCAA Coach of the Year, while Conner Watt, Cameron Brennan, and Luke McLean were named to the All-Ontario team.

"It's an honour to be recognized for this award as voted on by the coaches in the OCAA," Trichilo said. "It's very important to thank my team for helping me win this award. Good players make a coach look good and these guys kept improving and working hard this season. There are some awfully good coaches in this conference and a number of them deserved to win it."

The honour marks the first time a Humber golf coach has garnered the award, despite the program's strong championship tradition.

Trichilo guided Humber to the program's 20th OCAA title Wednesday afternoon at the Crimson Ridge Golf Course, as the Hawks led start to finish and defeated No. 3 Georgian by 40 strokes. It was the third conference championship for Trichilo at Humber, the first since 2014.

Watt, Brennan, and McLean became the 29th, 30th, and 31st Humber golfers to be named to the All-Ontario team in the program's history. It also marked the 22nd straight year that at least one Hawk golfer was named to the team. Overall, Humber men's golf has earned 48 All-Ontario honours by 31 individuals.

Humber will be back in action Oct. 17 - 20, as the Hawks will look for the program's 11th national title at the 2017 CCAA Championship. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club, hosted by Durham College.
