2024-25 Men's Basketball Preview

The storyline

Humber men's basketball returns for its 50th season, opening the 2024-25 OCAA schedule on Oct. 20 at Niagara (Welland Campus Gymnasium). Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.

2023-24 Highlights
  • The Hawks won the OCAA Championship for the second time in the last three years after defeating the George Brown Huskies 77-45 in the gold medal game. It was the 16th provincial title in the college's history.

  • Point guard Jalen Menzies led the team with 20.8 points per game during the 18 regular season games. He was also named 2024 OCAA Men's Basketball Championship MVP and 2024 CCAA Men's Basketball All-Canadian.

  • The Hawks' offence was the most efficient of the season, with a rating of 1.054.

  • Coach Omar Miles was named the OCAA coach of the year for the second time.

  • Humber finished the OCAA postseason with a point differential of +89, an average of +22.3 per game.

  • The Hawks captured the CCAA bronze medal at nationals, the 17th in program history.
At the helm

After winning his second title in three years, Coach Omar Miles knows all eyes will be on his team in the Western Division. The 2024 OCAA Coach of the Year enters his fourth season with the Hawks with a 46-16 (.742) record. Dave Bethune, Warrick Manners, and Carlo Zoffranieri all return for their fourth seasons as assistant coaches. Gil Garrovillo will be making his debut on the coaching staff.

Experienced team

Four of last season's top five scorers return to the team in the hunt for another title. Jalen Menzies (20.8), Malik Grant (12.4), Taujh Motiki-Stephens (8.4) and Kwabena Antwi (8.3) are some of Coach O's strengths to try to repeat the feat this season.

The team has five players making their debuts for the Hawks:

  • Victoire Ndongo, Small Forward, Toronto - Making postsecondary debut.
  • Timothy Morant, Point Guard, Toronto - Making postsecondary debut.
  • Gershon Mbobi, Guard, Brampton - Making postsecondary debut.
  • Dwayne Burke, Shooting Guard, Whitby - Making postsecondary debut.
  • Lucas Lewis, Power Forward, Hamilton - appeared in 34 games for the Surge from 2022-24, scoring 219 points, 163 rebounds, and five blocks.
