Humber Curling Advances to CCAA Semifinal Round

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE – Humber curling has concluded round-robin play, advancing both teams to the CCAA semifinal round on Mar. 15.

The grueling four-day round robin saw the men's team finishing at the top of the standings, concluding with a 6-1 record. After conceding to SAIT (3-4, 5th) in match three, the Hawks responded with a 7-2 victory over unbeaten Fanshawe (5-2, 4th) to finish group play in first. In seven matches, the Hawks outscored their opponents 50-35, finishing with a tournament high 11 stolen ends and 16 stolen points.

The men's team will now play the Fanshawe Falcons in the semifinal round Mar. 15 at 10:30 a.m. ET.

The women's team opened the tournament with two straight wins, before dropping their next two matches to NAIT (4-3, 5th) and Douglas (6-1, 1st). The Hawks responded with a dominant 10-5 win over Concordia, before dropping their final match of group play to Sault (2-5, 8th). With four teams tied for second place with a 4-3 record, the Hawks finished the round-robin in second place after the tiebreaker. Humber averaged 6.29 points per match, the lowest scoring total of the four teams remaining.

The women's team will now play the Concordia Thunder in the semifinal round Mar. 15 at 10:30 a.m. ET.
