CCAA Hall of Fame Inductee: Brad Kerfoot

Brad Kerfoot, one of the most influential golfers in the early years of Humber College’s decade of dominance, will be inducted into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Hall of Fame in the Athlete Category.

Kerfoot led the Hawks to three consecutive national championships in Men’s Golf from 2001-03. The two-time CCAA All-Canadian (2002, 2003) also earned an individual silver medal at the 2003 CCAA Golf National Championships.

Kerfoot led the Hawks to the program’s first Royal Canadian Golf Association (now Golf Canada) University/College title the following spring. He opened the tournament by firing a two-under-par 69, eventually winning the individual title by eight strokes, while the Hawks won the team event by a combined 22 strokes.

Kerfoot’s brilliant performance resulted in him being named captain of the Team Canada squad that competed at the 2004 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) Golf Championship in Korat, Thailand.

After his dominant 2003-04 campaign, Kerfoot became the first golfer named the Humber Male Athlete of the Year.

“It was an honour to represent Humber for my college career, but one thing that sticks out is how dominating we were as a team for three straight years in putting Humber College on the map as a golf powerhouse,” said Kerfoot. “I had the opportunity to be coached by Ray Chateau, who is among one of the best in Canada, and gave me the opportunity to develop as a player and person.”

To this day, Kerfoot still has many relationships with coaches, fellow teammates, and even playing competitors, which means a lot to him. He is appreciative of his time at Humber and the opportunities that the CCAA provided.

“We set the bar at Humber for excellence in the golf program which allowed future players and coaches to benefit for future events and opportunities,” said Kerfoot. “The college experience helped me develop both as a person and professional golfer to make me a successful individual today.”

According to his former coach and fellow 2023 CCAA Hall of Fame inductee, Chateau, Kerfoot is arguably the best golfer ever played in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and the CCAA.

“His combination of exceptional ball striking and mental toughness led Humber to three consecutive CCAA national championships and the University/College national championship,” said Chateau, now the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Humber. “No golfer performed in the big moments better than Kerf.”

Kerfoot was inducted into the Humber Varsity Hall of Fame in 2006 and the OCAA Hall of Fame in 2015.

The 2023 CCAA Hall of Fame Banquet will take place on Tuesday, June 13, in Niagara Falls, ON.
