Men's Golf returns to the CCAA mountaintop

AJAX – Humber men's golf returned to national glory, capturing the team and individual gold medals Friday at Deer Creek Golf Course. The Hawks jumped out to a five-stroke lead after round one and cruised to the program's 11th national title – the first since 2012.

Humber golf's rich winning tradition loomed large over the last decade, as the program only had four podium finishes over the last nine seasons. This young squad comprised four rookies undeterred by the past, led wire-to-wire and defeated the André-Laurendeau Boomerang by 20 strokes and the third-place Fanshawe Falcons by 33.

Matthew Bremer, the only Hawk with national experience, led the inexperienced squad, capturing the individual gold medal after shooting four-over-par on the four-day event. Bremer, who has consistently improved over his career at Humber, opened the tournament with a one-over-par 71. With tough weather conditions on moving day, the big lefty moved up three spots and never looked back. With a two-stroke lead, Bremer shot one-under-par to win the individual crown by five strokes.

Rookie phenom Daniel Talmage concluded his impressive first season by winning the bronze medal at 11-over-par – his second of the season. Trey Ross narrowly missed the podium, falling five strokes back and finishing sixth overall in the field of 50. All three players were named CCAA All-Canadians.

For 2017 OCAA Coach of the Year Nick Trichilo, it was his first men's title since taking over the program in 2012.
