YEAR IN REVIEW: STREAKING HAWKS FLY TO OCAA SILVER MEDAL IN 17-18
The Humber Hawks men's volleyball team reinvented themselves in 2017-18, and took to the court with many new faces. The new look Hawks had a mission, and with Humber's longest serving head coach Wayne Wilkins, had the leadership to guide them on their quest.
The Hawks struggled out of the gate at 1-2, but with the insertion of rookie sensation Dylan Devecseri into the line-up after an early season sidelined him, Humber went on to with 14 straight matches and eventually snare a second place spot in the tough West Division.
Outside hitter Kamyn Wilkins and setter Rady Kim earned OCAA West Division Second Team All-Star nods, while Devecseri was named as the OCAA West Division and Overall Rookie of the Year, to go with a spot on the All-Rookie team.
Three OCAA playoff wins, with the semi and impressive 3-0 win over the East champion Georgian Grizzlies, propelled Humber into a gold medal match with the undefeated Fanshawe Falcons. Although Humber failed to grab gold, the silver was well-deserved and solidified their spot as one of the best teams in the province, and a team to be feared in the coming seasons.
Devecseri and Wilkins were recognized for their fine play at the provincial championships, as both were selected to the championship all-star team
