HAWKS PREPARE TO WRAP UP FIRST HALF OF THE SEASON

ETOBICOKE, ON: The upcoming weekend for the Humber College men's volleyball team has the Hawks hosting the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boréal Vipères on back-to-back days.

On Saturday, November 28, the Hawks will host the 0-8 Cambrian Golden Shield, currently sitting tenth in the OCAA West Division.

With nine first-year players on their roster, Cambrian has had a tough time stringing together any rallies to win a set.  The Golden Shield are coming off a straight set loss to (2-6) Conestoga – 13-25, 14-25, 17-25.  Isaac Claveau finished with a team-high eight points.

The Hawks have strung together back-to-back wins against the two teams in the 2015-16 CCAA bronze medal match.  At home, Humber defeated the defending provincial champions, Niagara College, in a tough five-set thriller.  Scott Wilson, a former Queen's Gaels, set his OCAA career-high with 15 points in the match.

Humber then went on the road to play the St. Clair Saints, the team that finished second at OCAA's and fourth at CCAA's a season ago.  Once again it took five sets but the Hawks were able to come away with the win.  Freshman Nathan Murdock narrowly missed out breaking the OCAA record of 40 points in a match set by former Hawk Terrel Bramwell in 2010-11.  Murdock finished with 38 points and nine digs in the match.

Over the last two seasons, the Hawks are 4-0 against Cambrian, without losing a set in the three matches.  The last time these programs met at the Humber Athletic Centre, the Hawks won in straight sets behind CCAA All-Canadian Terrel Bramwell and his game-high 22 points.  Stephen Brown finished with nine points for the Golden Shield in the loss.

On November 29, the Hawks will be hosting the Boréal Vipères at the Humber Athletic Centre. The Vipères are in the midst of a seven game losing streak after sweeping Cambrian 3-0 to begin the season.  Just like Cambrian, the last match for Boréal was a three set loss to Conestoga.

HAWK NOTES

The men's volleyball team has a rich history of gift giving during the Christmas season, and this year they have taken it up a notch by involving all of the friends and families of Hawk Nation to contribute. You will be able to support this fabulous initiative this coming weekend at the games hosted by the Hawks. Please drop off a new unwrapped toy, for kids aged 4-12. Bring in a toy(s) and be eligible for Humber Swag. More toys means more chances to wear the "Blue & Gold"!
