MEN’S RUGBY TO PLAY HOME OPENER ON FRIDAY

ETOBICOKE, Ontario: The Humber Hawks men's rugby team, currently in search of a record sixth consecutive OCAA title, will take to the Humber College Valley Field for the first time this year on Friday afternoon in a match-up with Hamilton's Mohawk Mountaineers. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 pm.

The game, which is a pre-cursor to the Humber Varsity Gala and Alumni weekend, should draw quite a huge fan base.

Both teams enter the game with 1-0 records. The Mountaineers opened with a dominating 43-0 win over the Sheridan Bruins, while the Hawks topped the winless Conestoga Condors, 57-5.

Mohawk, with legendary coach Alex Paris re-joining the club as an assistant, have rejuvenated the program, and look to be a formidable opponent for any OCAA squad. It was Paris's Mountaineer club that interrupted what would have been an eight year title run for the Hawks, defeating Humber in 2009/10.

The two teams boast the two leading scorers in the league, as Duncan Earl of Mohawk and Jonmichael Fletcher of Humber have scored four tries each, for 20 points. Last year scoring champion and Player of the Year, Johnny Sheridan from the Hawks is close by, with twelve points.

This is sure to be one of the most physical games of the year, and the Hawks hope that home-field advantage, especially with a big crowd will help boost their fortunes.
