MEN’S RUGBY OPEN SEASON IN SEARCH OF RECORD 6TH TITLE

KITCHENER, Ontario: The Humber Hawks men's rugby team, who tied the all-time OCAA men's rugby record of five consecutive titles last year, will open the season on the road on Friday afternoon in Kitchener against the Conestoga Condors. Kick off, from the Conestoga campus field, is 4:30 pm.

The Hawks are fresh off a match with the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor last week, one which saw the Canadian blue and gold squad knock off the Wolverines by a score of 36-0. Conestoga, who have fielded very strong and physical teams in the past, got their season started last week. They suffered a loss by a lopsided score of 34-5 to the Georgian Grizzlies.

These two teams met only once last year, a 65-0 win for the Hawks. In fact, the Humber squad did not allow a single point in regular season play in 2014, outscoring their opponents 528-0 in just six games.

Humber are in search of establishing the all-time OCAA consecutive title record with six, as they are currently tied with Seneca. The Sting made their run from 2001 to 2005. The Hawks have also won seven of the last titles, losing only Mohawk in 2009.

The Hawks next game, scheduled for Friday, September 25, will be their home opener. The Mohawk Mountaineers will provide the opposition. The bleachers will be packed for this one, as the game kicks off Homecoming ceremonies for the weekend.
