HAWKS HOST DURHAM IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION ON SATURDAY

HAWKS HOST DURHAM IN DOUBLEHEADER ACTION ON SATURDAY

ETOBICOKE, ON: In what is quickly become must-win games early in the season, the slumping Humber Hawks will entertain the Durham Lords for two games on Saturday afternoon at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke.

The first pitch of Game One will take place at 1:00 pm, and the second will begin thirty minutes after the completion of the first affair.

Humber enters the games on a four game losing streak, with two of them against one of the teams they are fighting for a play-off spot in the championship tournament hosted at Humber in October. The other two are sandwiched in-between, a pair of road losses in Windsor against the defending champion St. Clair Saints.

Durham, who were off to a fast start at 4-0, are also coming into the game on a losing note, as they dropped two to London's Fanshawe College last weekend.

The Hawks strength lies in their pitching. This is undeniable. In three of the five games they have given up just four runs. In fact, take away the one game that got away from them against St. Clair, they have only given up a total of eight runs in four games played.

Their achilles heel has been the offense. They have almost as many strikeouts (26) as hits (32), and have been limited to a single run or less in three of the five games played. At points they have been able to put runners in scoring position, but have been unable to move them. In Wednesday's 1-0 loss at Seneca, Humber put a runner on second with no outs in the seventh and final inning, but were unable to score him.

Should the Hawks pitching continue to put up solid outings, it falls on the offense to pick up the slack. This weekend will be a huge test, as the visiting Lords squad come into the game with a formidable pitching staff of their own.

Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts, the doubleheader will not be streamed live this weekend. Pack up your snacks and lawn chairs, and join us at the park for OCAA men's baseball action!
