HUMBER BEATS FANSHAWE IN OCAA CHAMPIONSHIP OPENER

ETOBICOKE, ON: With a day delay due to poor weather conditions, the Humber Hawks (2nd OCAA) and the Fanshawe Falcons (3rd OCAA) Falcons opened up the 2016 Ontario College Athletic Association Men's Baseball Championship tournament October 22 at Connorvale Park in Etobicoke, Ontario. 

It was sunny, cold and windy as he Hawks pitcher, Steven Hough threw the first pitch and sent Robert Doyle to first base. A few good plays at second and a catch sent the Falcons back to the dugout and the Hawks up to bat. 

Getting hit off a Falcon's pitch, Humber's Brandon Manley, was sent to first base.

The score remained 0-0 until the third inning where Fanshawe scored an incredible four runs putting the Falcons up 4-0. Zev Weisdorf opened up the running streak for the men in red. 

The Hawks retaliated with a few hits and some outstanding pitching from Steven Hough but were unable to catch up until the bottom of the fifth inning when Keegan Murphy managed to get a run in. Next up, Stephen Andreopolous hit a triple that scored two more runs in making the score 4-3. The Hawks managed to tie the game at 4-4 with fans sitting on the edge of their seats. 

With Kyle Zimmer of Fanshawe still pitching, the Hawks took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with two out. As the score remained 5-4, the game moved on to the seventh inning.

The game ended as 5-4 with the Hawks advancing on in the double-knockout style tournament. 

Player of the game for the Fanshawe Falcons was Travis Helps and Steven Hough took it for the Humber Hawks.
