CROSS COUNTRY ALUMNUS JOINS COACHING STAFF

ETOBICOKE, Ont -- The Humber Hawks cross country head coaches Monique Haan and Teresa Arnini have announced the hiring of Darren Mancini to the coaching staff.  Mancini will serve as the team's new assistant coach for the upcoming 2017-18 CCAA season.

"We believe he will be a true asset to the progression of our program and we are excited to bring Darren onto our successful coaching staff," said Coach Haan.

Mancini, a native of Brampton, Ont., spent five years running for the Hawks from 2010-15, helping the men's team win four provincial silver medals.  As a co-captain in his final season, Humber won its first national championship, upsetting the powerhouse Fanshawe Falcons.

"Darren has always demonstrated a passion for our sport and we know that in his new role he will continue to develop our athletes and push them to their true potential," added Coach Arnini.

Mancini graduated from Humber College with a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion and had always demonstrated a passion for the sport.  After interning for the OCAA and Athletics Ontario, he began assisting the coaches at the Etobicoke Track & Field Club, a highly respected track program in the Greater Toronto Area.

"I'm really excited and thankful for this opportunity," Mancini said. "Humber has made a name for itself within the cross country community, and I look forward to helping the program continue to grow and build upon a tremendous team atmosphere."

The Hawks will host open tryouts for the upcoming season beginning September 5.  For more information regarding tryouts, click here.
